The largest mall in the entire world is located in Dongguan, China. It’s called the New South China Mall and it has the largest area of leasable space (7.1 million sq. ft.) The mall was opened in 2005 and it has a potential room for 2,350 stores. Unfortunately, it has remained largely empty with only 47 open stores. This leaves almost 99% of the structure vacant. Reasons, however for its unpopularity can be the facts that it is located in the suburbs with no nearby airports of highways, and it is only accessible by bus or car.
Seven zones are featured in its design. They are all modeled on international locations,
such as Paris, California, Egypt, Amsterdam, Rome, and the Caribbean.
Notably, a zone built to resemble Venice, Italy contains a 1.3 mile long canal complete with gondolas!
